Who We Are
Shisha is based in the heart of Manchester’s cultural Northern Quarter.
Shisha is the UK’s leading and internationally acclaimed agency for contemporary South Asian crafts and visual arts. An independent registered charity since 2001, the Shisha team comprises of the Director, Deputy Director, Finance Coordinator, Project Coordinator and General Administrator. Shisha also employs a range of freelance specialists and volunteers on various projects and major strategic programmes. The agency currently has nine board members from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
Our mission is to raise the profile of artists of South Asian descent from the UK and the international diaspora. Our work covers many areas including exhibitions, residencies, artist support schemes, publications, advocacy, consultancy, commissions, festivals and tours as well as forging partnerships across the museum, gallery and education sectors.
